Our Story

Our journey together began in 2017 when twe met through a vibrant bridal hair community. Both passionate about hairstyling, we quickly connected and began collaborating on various weddings, bringing our unique talents and creativity to every event we worked on.

Our professional relationship deepened in the wake of the Black Lives Matter movement. We shared our personal experiences and frustrations regarding the lack of diversity within the bridal industry. We recognised a significant gap: the scarcity of stylists skilled in working with curly and coily hair for brides. This realisation fueled our determination to make a change.

Combining our expertise and dedication, we have joined forces to address this issue head-on. We are committed to empowering other hairstylists and makeup artists by providing education and resources focused on styling textured hair. Through our workshops and collaborative efforts, we aim to create a more inclusive and diverse bridal sector, ensuring every bride feels beautiful and confident on her special day.

Hey, I'm
Cimone

I’ve been a hairdresser for over a decade, starting my career in salons before transitioning to freelance work in 2016. Going freelance has given me the freedom to explore various opportunities, from bridal styling to film and TV projects.

Throughout my journey, I’ve achieved significant milestones, including being a finalist in Tribute Hair Magazine’s “The Afro One” category, earning recognition as “One to Watch” by Black Hair and Beauty Magazine, and being named a Solo Artist Finalist at the Salon Business Awards. Additionally, I’ve been honored as a Regional Finalist at the TWIA Wedding Awards. My work has been featured in publications like Rock and Roll Bride Magazine and Creative Head Magazine, as well as on wedding blogs such as Whimsical Weddings.

In 2020, following the Black Lives Matter movement, I felt compelled to reassess how I could contribute to inclusivity and awareness in the hair industry, particularly regarding textured and curly hair. This led to the creation of The Curl Directive, a project aimed at providing education and support for natural-haired brides.

Beyond my professional endeavors, I’m also a proud mom to a wonderful two-year-old boy and a doggy mom to a lively cocker spaniel. My passion for natural hair extends beyond my career, as I’ve been embracing my own curls for over a decade and enjoy continuously learning about curly and coily hair care.

My motto in life is simple: treat others as you would like to be treated. Thank you for taking the time to read about my journey, and I look forward to sharing my knowledge and experiences with you.

Hey, I'm
Natasha

I’m so glad you’re here. Let me tell you a bit about myself and why I’m so passionate about curly and coily hair.

Working with curly brides has been a dream come true for me! I started my journey as a make-up artist in the fashion and commercial world, collaborating with big names like Superdry, ASOS, and New Look, and even working on some exciting projects for Tom Ford and Harper’s Bazaar.

Venturing into the bridal industry was a game-changer. Offering hair services for curly and textured hair has opened doors to some fantastic opportunities. I’ve had the pleasure of working in Ibiza for Rituals, doing a Superdrug campaign, and styling brides in beautiful destinations like Italy and Sardinia.

For the past 9 years, I’ve also been running a bridal agency called Something Blue Hair and Makeup. This has allowed me to bring my passion for creating stunning bridal looks to even more clients. I’m honoured to have been named one of Harper’s Bazaar’s Top 22 Bridal Hair and Makeup Artists and to have been a regional finalist in The National Wedding Awards.

Providing an inclusive service has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Growing up, I struggled to find anyone who could work with my hair, and I know first-hand how isolating that can feel.

I didn’t fully embrace my natural hair until I was 30. Before that, I had straightened it for about 15 years, not even knowing its true texture. Embracing my curls changed my life, and now I want to help others do the same.

That’s why Cimone and I started The Curl Directive. We realized there was a huge gap in education and training for curly and coily hair in the wedding industry, and we wanted to fill it. We created educational courses specifically for hairstylists and makeup artists to bridge this gap.

Any hey, when I’m not transforming curls, I’m a proud mom who loves unwinding with an espresso martini and practicing yoga.

Let’s embrace those curls together!

At The Curl Directive, we’re all about sharing our love for curly and coily textures. We want every client to feel seen and confident when they sit in a stylist’s chair. No more bringing your own products because the stylist doesn’t know how to handle your hair – we can do better than that.
